Retinal Vein Occlusion
Retinal vein occlusion occurs when a smaller branch vein or the larger central vein that removes blood from the retina becomes blocked. This is most often associated with hypertension and diabetes, but can also bee seen in patients with hypercoagulability or elevated eye pressure. Swelling of the central retina or new blood vessel growth can develop and cause reduced vision following vein occlusion.
